In the first few months the baby can’t move around the crib so you should put any camera unit at the bottom end for the best angle with lead trailing directly away.
Of course when the child is more mobile you would put ANY item you don’t want it to play with out of reach. My Little Eye is simply better designed to be able to easily be placed anywhere in the room and still have the veiwing angle required to monitor your child.

0:13 Important note: Mounting the cam on the edge of the crib means the baby could either become entangled in the electrical cord or start chewing on it. I’d recomend mounting the camera a safe distance away from the baby, perhaps the edge of a dresser or window sill.
can you use the camera without plugin it in to the mains

The camera plugs into the mains and the monitor has a li-on rechargable battery that last for up to 4hrs.

All Anologue systems can get interferance but this one is very high quality and i’d take the pepsi test against any of the competition with it.
