Breeding Crickets (the best way i know)
Materials:18 gallon sterilite tub, top soil, egg crate, dog food and cricket food, spray bottle, 25 adult crickets I first started with a 10 gallon tank and taped all the silicone edges. then i taped the glass sides about a inch from the top. (use clear packing tape for all the taping) Then i put about 1.5 – 2 inches of peat based soil with no chemicals in, covering the whole bottom of the tank. i put some egg carton pieces in so the female crickets can push her probe in the ground and give them more floor space so they don’t eat each other. (KEEP THE GROUND MOIST. NOT SOAKED.) for food i use crushed dog food for the babes but whole pieces are ok for the big crickets. (always have food in the tank.) For water i get some paper towels and fold them until they are 4 inches across. keep it wet at all times. get 25 adult crickets and put them in the tank. keep the tank warm but not hot. make sure it’s not to humid. after about 1½ – 2 weeks take the adults out. you should start to see babes at 2.5 – 3 weeks. they take care of them selves if you do all the stuff above. they grow fast and should be ready to feed at 3.5 – 6 weeks old. (depending on what size you need) remember to save some for breeding again. (24 of them or more for bigger containers) you can have a second set-up to breed them again asap. you can also use a bigger container set up exactly like the 10 gallon and get more baby crickets like i did but if you don’t need that many crickets than the smaller set-up is …

Broken Promises Ch.10 Part 2 “Nicole? Nicole, Get up we need to get ready to leave.” Nick said gently shaking me. “Huh?’ “The doctor’s. We need to leave.” He said helping me sit up. I looked around. “Were’s Joe and Kev?” “They’re in the car. Come on we’re going to be late.” ” Ok. Just let me fix my hair.” I said as i went to the bathroom to get a brush. I put my hair in a ponytail. No make-up. We got the hospital just in time. We got signed in and everything and sat in the waiting room. When my name was called me and Nick got up and followed the nurse. Joe and Kevin were out in the car waiting. I layed down on the bed and we waited for another nurse to come in. Nick was making jokes and how he had to explain to the cops that there was no need to break the door down to make sure i wasn’t dead. I started laughing when he told me that the cops didn’t believe him and were about to arrest him. The nurse walked in shortly after that. “How ya feeling? Nervous or excited?” The nurse asked smiling as she got the gel. “I think a little of both.” I said and looked up at Nick. “Ya. But i’m a little more excited.” Nick said smiling. “Ok. Well we’re going to see how it’s doing.” She said. She realized while she was setting up the monitor that Nick was Nick Jonas from the Jonas Brothers and was making conversation with us while she looked for the baby’s heartbeat. Nothing. “Well you can’t always hear the heartbeat because of the way the baby is positioned. So we’ll just skip that and go …

@ConstrictorsINC
i remove the adults after about 2-3 weeks depending on when they start breeding. but i do keep the eggs in the container. that’s why humidity is important.
Do you remove the eggs or do you leave them in there with the colony of crickets?
@LNCBG
i’m going to be uploading a 10 gallon demonstration video so you might want to check it out when i post it later today.
Thank you for sharing this great video, I’m going to try to breed crickets in this way instead of “my” way. I keep a delicup with moist soil as laying box, but I don’t hatch as much as I need, even if I have a large tub with about 50-75 adult crickets in the tub. I will try to breed crickets in your way instead and hopefully I will have a lot more crickets to feed.
Thanks
/Niclas
sweet, thanks again!
you have to keep it moist but not soaking wet. take out the egg crates, shake all the crickets in to the bottom of the tub, and mist the whole ground till it looks moist every 2-3 days. don’t make puddles in it. make sure to keep a top on it to keep in the humidity. than just put the crate back in it.
do you keep the top soil moist? if so, how often do you spray it? Thanks this will help a ton!
Posted on ma B day!
ok thanks
i get a cup and hold it in the cricket container and get a piece of the egg crate and shake them into the cup. than i pick out the ones i need and the right size.
ok Question how to you move the crickets form cage to cage. plz answer
it’s cause there dieing or cause there is no substrate in the container. also the smaller the cage the worse the smell is. i had a small container and i know what your talking about. you need a bigger container and a top soil substrate. (no chemicals) my container barely smells cause i have few dieing and i spot clean pretty much every day.
So how bad does it smell? I know that with just the half-dozen or so that I buy every week their little mini-cage gets pretty rank in a day or two, so I can’t imagine more than 50 of them, much less the thousands you’re talking about. :V
So ones the adults lay eggs u separate them from babies and let the babies grow so u can feed em to ur reptiles,but wat do u do with those other adults that u used @ begining for breeding?,once u transfer those adults into to the second container wat do u do with those adults after that?
they are trying to lay there eggs a little deeper. don’t worry about it.
My crickets are digging in the peat soil, are they eating the eggs or just digging?
the sides with clear PACKING TAPE. if you have any questions P.M. me.
1st. don’t feed the bearded dragon 20 crickets a day. a baby needs like 12 a day and feed him throughout the day with those 12 crickets. if it’s an adult you need to feed it 15 – 20 a day along with greens and the crickets.
2ed. if you want a smaller group then do everything i said in the video and description in a 10 gallon tank. i started with a 10 gallon tank and it worked well for me. then my collection got bigger and i used with the big container. don’t forget to to tape the silicone and..
im thinking about getting a bearded dragon and my nearest pet store is like 20 minutes away and i don’t want to go there everyy day and i was thinking of doing this, but i don’t want like thousands and thousands, what should i do i will probably be feeding him about average 20 crickets a day, how many crickets should i start out with?
yeah i know what u mean i am breeding mealworms they taking forever
crickets breed way faster and in bigger numbers. mealworms are slow. you can do both at the same time. i would use crickets as the main food and mealworms as a treat or to fatten up your animals.
i am doing mealwroms but in the future i would like to try crikets to
they are not loud at all. you can barely hear then when your like 5 feet away. any further and it’s almost completely quiet. and this is a great idea. i’v saved so much money. you can do it larger scale if you have more than 10 cricket eating animals or small scale for less than 5. if you or anyone else has questions PM me.
are they lound ? i am doing a mealworm colany but i was wondring is this a good idea ?
Why what?
