Overall, very pleased with this unit,
This is the third video monitor we have owned and the first Motorola brand. We have had 2 different Summer models and I would rate the Motorola at the top. While it’s true the volume is loud when you use the two way, the other features outweigh this nuance. And we do use the two way to let our 10 month old that we’re on the way to get her and she does not seem freaked out by it. But every baby is different.
First, the portability is great. We used to keep a monitor in the living room and the bedroom. Now, in the evening time, we keep the monitor in the living room (battery power) and when it’s time for bed, we put it beside our bed where we keep the power chord. The batteries have always lasted for us with this strategy.
The picture quality is great especially for the night time vision, which is obviously when it’s used. Further, the range is great. We live in a fairly large 2 story where the master bedroom is downstairs and off to the corner. The baby’s room is upstairs on an opposite corner and the reception is still great. Further, we have WiFi and there’s no issue with interference.
The tempature gauge is very nice! Given it’s currently winter time, we use a radiator heater in the baby’s room (it’s more consistant than a blower heater) but it does not have a digital thermostat. Therefore, knowing the exact tempature of the room is great. With our first baby, we misset a blower sytle heater and the room tempature got up to 90 degrees by the time we went in there. That is no longer a concern with this monitor.
The features are intuitive. We use the sleep mode from time to time and in a pinch, we have used the lullaby feature when our I-phone battery is dead as we play lullabies when we rock our daughter. Yes, the speaker quality is not great, but these are not exactly Infinity speakers here.
Overall, my wife and I really like this unit and the features. The only suggestions I would give to Motorola would be like other customers have said regarding lowering the two way volume or, even better, incorporating an adjustable volume on the baby camera. Other than that, we are very pleased with this unit.

|meh. It’s OK.,
I agree with the other review here. This is a fine monitor when purchased at a “deal” kind of price. I love that I can see what kind of hijinks my little one is getting in to now that he is out of his crib. I think the picture quality is good even with the night vision. I like that it is sound activated so that you don’t have that constant hum of a monitor and awakened by every little noise of your child rolling over, breathing heavily, etc. (maybe that was just me but before sound-activated monitors, I got no sleep).
I was also excited about the 2 way communication. However, as another reviewer notes, it’s useless. The first time I used it my kid was so freaked out he screamed and screamed. I thought it was just because it was a new thing –having my voice in his room without me being there– but then I went in his room and my husband talked on it and it is L-O-U-D!!! and there is no way to turn it down. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Major design flaw there. Anyway, we just don’t use it. Even when I whispered it was loud. Serious bummer though. I was really excited about the prospect of being able to say “just a minute, mommy will be right there” rather than scream it down the hall at 6 a.m. Oh well…

|good but not great,
Bought this for baby #2 arriving soon.
The picture is good as is the sound quality. The temperature indicator is my favorite perk.
The not so good
No way to raise/lower the sound on the baby unit (so when you play music or talk through the monitor its rather loud)
The sound quality on the baby unit is very POOR. It sounds like a drive-thru speaker. (this was a key feature that prompted us to buy the unit so I’m bummed to find it useless).
We are used to monitors that have two parent units, I wish there was a way to purchase a second parent unit (we keep one in the living room and one in the bedroom).
Also wish there was a way to turn off the video feed but still hear audio.
