Question by paparazzi_12: Can someone use a video baby monitor to see inside my apartment?
I have a video baby monitor that has excellent range, but it got me thinking, couldn’t someone buy the same monitor and switch to the same channel and see inside my apartment if they wanted to?

I have the “Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor” and I know it can work with an extra camera (if I bought one)… so in theory, couldn’t that work for my neighbors too?

Technically, this is possible. But generally, most baby video monitors and other electronics nowadays encrypt/decrypt their devices. For example, they can encrypt the signal transmitted from the video monitor, which is then decrypted by the receiver. This will prevent other video monitor/receiver sets from getting the same feed.

We are having a “scavenger hunt” game at my baby shower… people will not actually be getting up to look for items… they will just be filling them in on a piece of paper.
