When did you stop using a baby monitor?
Question by Liz (Tanner’s getting a sib!: When did you stop using a baby monitor?
I have an 8 month old and am pregnant with our second (due in October). I can’t imagine that I’ll be ready to stop “monitoring” our then 16 month old by the time this next baby is born so I’m thinking about purchasing another baby monitor. Is this a good idea or am I being over-cautious? When did you stop using a baby monitor with each child?

My kids are 16 months apart too! I still have a monitor on my older child, now 21 months. I think I will stop using a monitor when he moves into a big bed at 2 years.

- Question about Movement and sound Baby Monitors?
I have a 16 month old now and I would not even think of shutting the monitor off. I have a video monitor and I LOVE it. I think until he is older, like getting in & out of a toddler bed himself, I will consider stopping the monitor. But now…I need that reassurance.
Good Luck!!
I didn’t use one but i’ve been REALLY paranoid but never got one so yeah buy another one if they’ll be in different rooms because you’ll feel better and you’ll know they’re gonna be safe.
I have a three year old girl and I still use a monitor. I have a newborn who sleeps in a bassinet in my room and I plan to use a monitor on him too. I think its just good to know that they are ok, I dont think you are being over cautious.
I would recommend to use a monitor until the baby is 5 or 6 years of age as they can still need you in the night for bed wetting etc. And SIDs can still occur at this age. better to be safe.
My son is three, going on four, and I still use the baby monitor. My husband and I are in the master bedroom on the opposite side of the hallway and I like to hear my son if he needs me at night. He almost always sleeps all through the night with no interruptions, but it’s more for my peace of mind then his.
We have never used one. My 5 month old sons room is right across from us and our 3 year old daughter is about 20 feet away so I have no problem hearing them. When my daughter is napping in her room I can hear if she gets out of bed otherwise I check on her every once in a while.
I would purchase another monitor. My oldest is 28 months and we still use a monitor.
When my kids figured out what it was and they threw them out of their rooms.
I have never used a baby monitor. What do you monitor? When he is sleeping?? I have a two story house and even with a baby upstairs and me downstairs I can still hear. Even when I’ve been outside (gardening or whatever) the worst that would happen is the baby would be crying for a bit and thats never hurt anybody. Its your first baby and everyone is always over cautious. As soon as the new one comes you won’t have the energy to worry as much.
